Volvo Unveils New Naming Scheme: EX40 and EC40
Swedish automaker Volvo has announced a new naming scheme for its future electric vehicles (EVs). The new names will consist of the prefix "EX" or "EC," followed by a number. The EX prefix will be used for pure electric vehicles, while the EC prefix will be used for plug-in hybrids.
EX40 and EC40
The first two models to use the new naming scheme will be the EX40 and EC40. The EX40 will be a pure electric subcompact SUV, while the EC40 will be a plug-in hybrid subcompact SUV. Both models are expected to be released in 2024.
Design and Features
The EX40 and EC40 will share many design cues with the larger Volvo XC40 SUV. However, they will also have unique features that set them apart from their gasoline-powered sibling.
The EX40 will feature a closed-off grille, as well as unique alloy wheels and badging. The EC40 will have a more traditional grille, but it will still be clearly identifiable as a Volvo.
Both models will come standard with a host of advanced safety features, including lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and blind spot monitoring. They will also be equipped with Volvo's latest infotainment system, which features a large touchscreen display and a variety of smartphone integration options.
Powertrain and Performance
The EX40 will be powered by a single electric motor, which will produce 204 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. The EC40 will be powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine and an electric motor, which will combine to produce 258 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque.
The EX40 will have an estimated driving range of 250 miles on a single charge, while the EC40 will have an estimated driving range of 40 miles on electric power alone.
The Volvo EX40 and EC40 are two exciting new EVs that are sure to appeal to a wide range of buyers. With their stylish designs, advanced features, and efficient powertrains, they are a great choice for anyone who is looking for a premium electric vehicle.
