Z Launches On-The-Go EV Charging for Large Vehicles

New Zealand's leading fuel retailer, Z, has launched a new on-the-go electric vehicle (EV) charging service for large vehicles. The company has opened two 180kW charging bays at its Z Wiri Station Road site in Auckland, making it the first in New Zealand to offer this type of high-powered charging for trucks and other large EVs.

The new charging bays are part of Z's commitment to expanding its EV charging network and supporting the transition to a low-emissions future. The company plans to open more than 100 rapid charging stations across New Zealand by 2025.

"We're excited to be at the forefront of EV charging in New Zealand," said Z CEO Mike Bennetts. "These new charging bays will make it easier for truckies and other drivers of large EVs to keep their vehicles charged and on the road."

The 180kW chargers can provide up to 100km of range in just 30 minutes of charging. This makes them ideal for long-distance travel and for businesses that operate fleets of EVs.

The opening of the new charging bays has been welcomed by the trucking industry. The New Zealand Trucking Association said that the move would help to reduce emissions from the trucking sector.

"This is a great step forward for the trucking industry," said NZ Trucking Association CEO David Pearce. "These new chargers will make it easier for truckies to switch to EVs and help us to reduce our emissions."

Z is working with several partners to develop its EV charging network. The company has partnered with ChargeNet NZ to install rapid chargers at its sites, and it is also working with Meridian Energy to provide renewable energy to power the chargers.
